Scarpa’s is a locally-owned, reasonably-priced Italian restaurant with a contemporary atmosphere. Scarpa’s serves excellent pizza, pasta and salads and has a full bar. While the pizza and pasta are off limits for those of us following a gluten free diet, there are excellent options for meal-sized salads.
The managers at both locations have told me that they purchase their lettuce already prepared and they will open a new package to make sure your salad is gluten-free. Salads are assembled at their own station away from foods containing gluten. Not all of the salads are gluten free so you may need to request alterations. For example, you would need to request feta cheese be substituted in salads that contain blue cheese. Also, make sure to tell the server not to plate your salad with the bread that is normally included.
The Insalata di Pollo pictured here is an enormous salad topped with large pieces of marinated grilled chicken. The salad has a delicious gluten-free balsamic dressing and has been tossed with roasted red peppers, calamata olives, tomatoes, Asiago cheese and caramelized walnuts (I know the walnuts are gluten free because the chef was nice enough to show me the recipe). This salad is truly excellent!
