May 2011: This review was written by GF Lady, the previous owner of GlutenFreeAlbuquerque.com and is used here with her permission.
After having heard so many good things about eating gluten free at Outback Steakhouse, I finally had the opportunity to eat there. I had received great reviews from users of this site and I had perused the extensive gluten-free menu online. Therefore, my expectations were high and I wasn’t disappointed.
Our server brought the gluten free menu to our table and my first pleasant surprise is that it was physically just as large as the standard menu. There were so many choices that it took me quite a while to figure out what I wanted.
Our server was able to answer all my detailed questions about the food preparation process and the ingredients used in each menu item. I chose a small sirloin steak, sautéed vegetables, and a baked sweet potato topped with butter a hint of brown sugar and cinnamon.
The meal that was placed in front of me was wonderfully colorful with broccoli and carrots cooked to perfection and a large baked sweet potato framing a delicious looking steak. It looked so good that I immediately started eating and completely forgot to take a picture.
The entire meal was excellent and I was completely satiated until the server described the flourless pecan brownie served with ice cream and fudge sauce. I could have resisted but I was convinced by my friend to split it with her. This dessert was enough for several people to share but I had no problem eating more than my share – every bite was fantastic.
My experience at Outback definitely met my high expectations. The big surprise was the low price of my dinner, which was only $9.99. I don’t know why I waited so to enjoy a meal here!
