O’Niell’s Nob Hill location has been a fun place to go for great food in a true Irish-pub atmosphere for several years. However, I hadn’t been there since beer became unwelcome on my diet. My interest in the restaurant was resurrected when they built a new location in the former Krispy Kreme near the intersection of Juan Tabo and Candelaria. The building was completely remodeled and in addition to the indoor pub, there is a fabulous patio with an incredible view of the Sandias.
I went to the company website to see if there was even one thing on the menu that I could eat. You can only imagine my delight when I saw the gluten-free line under the menu tab. The menu is small and there is a disclaimer about cross contamination, which seems to be more prevalent as more restaurants offer gluten-free items.
Without delay, I rounded up a friend and we set out to enjoy an evening meal on the patio. When we were seated, I asked for the gluten-free menu and our hostess showed me the gluten-free symbol that appears next to gluten-free items on the standard menu. Three entrees and a couple of salads along with a yummy dessert are available gluten free. The salmon pictured here has been replaced by an even better Blackened Tilapia that is served with rice and the vegetable of the day. To complete your meal, give careful consideration to the flourless chocolate cake which is placed on top of a wonderful caramel sauce and all of this is covered with whipped cream and fresh fruit. Mmmmm!
O’Niell’s stocks several gluten-free beers along with an extensive selection of hard ciders, which are naturally gluten free. Be sure to ask your server to detail their growing list of gluten-free beverages!
